Photographer; Jukka Pohjola

Hi, I am a sailor and photographic enthusiast. Today retired from the daily business life, living in Turku archipelago, Finland. Winter months I try live in Tenerife, Canaries

What I like the most is photography, sailing and gardening when it’s not raining cats and dogs

Though I’m always engaged with building projects, houses, etc. and of course building and designing boats, what I’ve been doing all my life. I do a lot documentary photos of my projects in the site: jpconstructionsite.wordpress.com

T’hats me.

I’m going to sail more in the Northern Atlantic ocean. Macaronesian islands, Portugal and Galician coastal areas.

Atlantic Navigator is also the story telling name of the new sailing yacht S/y Nauta, that I got this year. A lot working methods and pictures are published in the “Data Channel for You”. Look also in Instagram #atlanticnavigator

S/y Nauta, our yacht is an old famous Jeanneau Voyage 12.50 from the year 1989. S/y Nauta has solo circumnavigated the globe with Don Eloy Garcia and his dog Grumete 1996 – 1967. The yacht has been maintained very pedant all these years and I’m now completing this task with my workmanship with boats. Atlantic Navigator stories are continuing after the total refit of this yacht. The yacht is serviced now in the Canary islands.

Memories

Here we faced a severe storm between the islands of Gran Canary and Tenerife.

The wind was very gusty 40 – 50 knots and the waves started to build up. We had to sail a bit lower course to the island of Hierro. Later on during the night we tacked a few times to reach Tenerife South point

Here is another memorable sailing day in Canal Beagle with the skipper Kelo and his french boat, note the height of the steel built doghouse. This boat is making trips near the Cape Horn

I still have my Nikon 700 and Nikkor lenses as a second camera.  I became a good friend with the Fuji XPro1 camera. I lost my dear Fuji X Pro1 and 35 mm 1,4 lens.  Life is crude.

Now a new camera chapter starts and I´m back to Leica where it all started a long time ago.  I´m eager to use this marvellous Leica T camera

My interests in the photography are still the same: sea, waterways, coastal gardens landscapes where sea meets land  

My roots are partly from Carelia from the peninsula where Vyborg is situated. I have lived most of my life in Helsinki and summers in Veikkola. The love to the sea has become from a very young boy, sailing with his dinghy around the islands in Helsinki. Today my harbor in the sun is Stormälö island in the archipelago of Turku.
